OneAccess Networks charts pragmatic NFV migration pathway for operators and CSPs

officer, OneAccess Networks

OneAccess Networks has today published a paper detailing a step-by-step NFV migration pathway for operators and CSPs in a bid to help them reconcile their ambitions to achieve service-oriented network virtualisation with the technical, operational and commercial realities that confront them today.

The paper, entitled a Pragmatic NFV Strategy for the delivery of enterprise business services, examines the role of virtualisation technology as it currently stands and suggests a strategic approach to migration that will enable operators to move steadily toward the virtualised end-game within a realistic timeframe and in a commercially viable manner.

Pravin Mirchandani, Chief Marketing Officer, OneAccess Networks commented: “Given the exponential growth in the volume of their customers’ traffic, as well as its increasing volatility, many operators now view the adoption of  SDN and NFV as essential to maintaining commercial viability yet, for the majority, deployment remains an elusive goal. To date, one of the chief reasons for this has been the difficulty in charting a realistic migration strategy from where they are today. Unlike other vendors, we serve the operator community specifically and know how to facilitate deployments in their highly specialised environment. Our proposed approach addresses the unique set of challenges that operators currently face and aims provide a realistic methodology for migrating from existing service deployment scenarios to a virtualised service delivery model.”

The paper explores considerations and implications for management, orchestration and OSS/BSS, and proposes a strategic framework through which operators can define their migration strategy, including how to assess readiness, set realistic expectations for ROI and define the steps for migration. It also offers a checklist which operators and CSPs may wish to reference when evaluating the suitability of each vendor’s approach.
