Recent Ofcom (UK communications regulator) data found that if business landline numbers continue to drop at their current rate, they will be all but extinct within just six years. But would this be a bad thing? The landline has enabled connectivity from 1876, so is it time for an upgrade? Are you switched on for the big switch off?

The countdown clock keeps ticking. We’re just three years away from turning off the public switched telephone network (PSTN), but many businesses remain unprepared. CSPs have just three years to tap into ISDN switch-off opportunities

Communications service providers (CSPs) are at risk of missing a golden opportunity from the switching-off of ISDN and PSTN lines in 2025, warns Paul Clarke, the UK manager of 3CX. According to Ofcom’s The Communications Market 2016 report, the number of ISDN lines in the UK stood at three million in 2015 but, when British Telecom stops selling new lines in 2020, a large proportion of the businesses using those  lines will have no option but to explore IP-based communication. Time is running out for them to adapt and begin educating its customers. (more…)
