Hughes Network Systems, LLC, an EchoStar company announced that Stargroup, a Mexican telecommunications and entertainment company has selected the Hughes JUPITER System and managed satellite broadband to extend LTE service for customers in rural communities. As part of the Mexican government’s Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) Telecomunicaciones e Internet para Todos initiative to help bridge the digital divide, Stargroup is connecting hundreds of remote cell towers using Hughes JUPITER System terminals and Hughes JUPITER 2 high-throughput satellite capacity.
Deutsche Telekom completed the partial sale of its tower business in Germany and Austria, which is combined in the GD Towers unit, effective February 1, 2023. The Group had announced in July 2022 that it would sell 51 percent of GD Towers to DigitalBridge and Brookfield. With the closing of the transaction, Deutsche Telekom will receive a total of more than 10 billion euros from the buyers and GD Towers.
KDDI announces that the mobile tower in Japan to use Starlink has started commercial operation in Hatsushima, a remote island in Sagami Bay. Starting with this location, KDDI will expand its coverage to 1,200 remote towers in order to pursue its vision to bring an urban mobile experience to its rural customers.
Deutsche Telekom is campaigning for the use of additional frequency bands for mobile communications. The company tested high frequency range at 6 gigahertz (GHz) in Bonn under real-world conditions. The result: The very high frequencies compared to current bands are ideally suited for mobile communications. They could significantly increase bandwidth and data speeds for the 5G mobile communications standard in the future.
A consortium of funds led by Global Infrastructure Partners and KKR entered into a co-control partnership with Vodafone GmbH for Vodafone’s c. 81.7% stake in Vantage Towers AG, a telecoms tower company in Europe. Vodafone will transfer its stake in Vantage Towers to a holding company, which will be indirectly co-controlled by Vodafone and the Consortium. The Consortium will obtain a shareholding of up to 50%. Oak BidCo will launch a voluntary public takeover offer for all outstanding free float shares of Vantage Towers AG comprising c. 18.3% of the share capital.
15 August, 2022 – With BAI Communications recently acquiring US-based infrastructure providers ZenFi Networks and Mobilitie, the company is sharpening its focus on delivering neutral-host private networks including convergent mobile & Wi-Fi infrastructure for large venues. Wireless networks for city transit including Wi-Fi on trains are other key growth areas, says BAI’s Group chief technology officer, Brendan O’Reilly.
02 August, 2022 – BAI Communications Australia (BAI) has been selected to lead one of four working groups scoping active sharing partnership models in phase one of the Stage 1 mobile coverage program’s (MCP) active sharing partnership (the partnership) led by the Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW).
Vodafone New Zealand Limited (‘Vodafone NZ’), together with shareholders Infratil Limited (‘Infratil’) and Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (‘Brookfield’), announce the sale of Vodafone NZ’s passive mobile tower assets for $1,700 million (€1659.79 million) to funds managed, or advised, by global investors InfraRed Capital Partners (40%) and Northleaf Capital Partners (40%). This represents a FY2023 pro-forma EBITDA multiple of 33.8x.
TOTEM will deploy a mobile indoor DAS (Distributed Antenna System) network for the entire 15 Sud line of the Grand Paris Express subway by 2025 and will operate the network until at least 2035.
