Viasat and Deutsche Telekom have announced a ground network expansion for Viasat’s European Aviation Network (EAN) to further support in-flight broadband service in the Eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. Set to meet growing demand from airline passengers, three new ground stations are now operating in the region to complement more than 300 ground network antenna sites already set up across Europe. Global communications company Viasat has been chosen by Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier of Malaysia, to equip their new Boeing 737-8 fleet with Viasat’s advanced wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) system. In the pipeline as part of its connectivity strategy, Malaysia Airlines will also introduce high-quality internet connectivity on its 737-8 aircraft.

Hamburg, Germany – Hughes Network Systems, an EchoStar company, and OneWeb, a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications company, have announced a distribution partner agreement to provide LEO connectivity services to the global airline market.
