DeepSig announced that it has been selected as a grant recipient by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) as part of the initial round of funding under the Public Wireless Supply Chain Innovation Fund (Wireless Innovation Fund). Administered by NTIA and underwritten by the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, the Wireless Innovation Fund has allocated [$1.5 billion (€1.37 billion)] to support innovation in the wireless supply chain.
“Receiving this grant from NTIA is an honor. It is also a testament to DeepSig’s dedication to improving the performance and competitiveness of the open RAN (radio access network) air-interface,” says Jim Shea, DeepSig CEO. “By leveraging generative artificial intelligence (AI) and tools for the modeling, testing and measurement of wireless environments under real world conditions, our new solutions will accelerate the adoption and performance of open RAN for 5G, and future AI-native 5G advanced and 6G.”
This recognition highlights DeepSig’s commitment to advancing open RAN technologies and underscores the importance of diversity and representation among Wireless Innovation Fund grant recipients, including small businesses and U.S. companies. The R&D category award also emphasises the necessity for advanced technologies in artificial intelligence and expert companies to deliver innovation.
The first round of grant awards, announced this week, is an important step in creating opportunities for U.S. companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, to compete in a market traditionally dominated by foreign suppliers. By fostering wireless innovation and encouraging competition, the Wireless Innovation Fund will play a pivotal role in driving competition, enhancing supply chain resilience, and supporting companies offering solutions.
