Telkomsel and Ericsson have announced their renewed partnership to grow and expand their existing 4G and 5G networks footprint in Indonesia. Ericsson has been providing connectivity and has deployed its 5G radio access network (RAN) products and solutions from Ericsson Radio System in Aceh, Northern Sumatra, Central and West Sumatra and Eastern part of Kalimantan, including New Capitol City (Nusantara). Thus, in B2B (business-to-business) segment, 5G services for industry have been growing through 5G deployment in manufacturing company in Batam since 2021.

Nugi Nugroho, director of networks, Telkomsel says, “As a reliable, long-term technology partner, we warmly welcome the renewal of partnership to provide 4G/5G connectivity with Ericsson, which is a continuation of their commitment to strengthening the latest broadband network technology support they have in Indonesia. The upgraded 4G/5G network will support Telkomsel’s efforts in realising the development of services for B2B and B2C (business-to-consumer) segment, especially for the Industry 4.0 ecosystem, strengthening smart cities, and bringing greater benefits to consumers and across industrial sectors in Indonesia. With the measurable and gradual deployment of Telkomsel’s 5G network, we continue to open up more potential for progress and be at the forefront of accelerating the adoption of an increasingly inclusive and sustainable digital lifestyle.”

Ericsson is securing Telkomsel’s network with its ultra-lightweight, massive MIMO (multiple-input and multiple-output) antenna integrated radio AIR 3219 that will serve to address future 5G and fixed wireless access and convergence (FWA/FMC) requirements.

Jerry Soper, head of Ericsson Indonesia, says, “We are delighted to renew and strengthen our partnership with Telkomsel within our existing radio footprint in Indonesia. Our latest generation of multi-band and Massive MIMO radios like AIR 3219, and basebands that are being deployed in the network, can help Telkomsel reduce energy consumption thereby significantly lower their energy costs and total cost of ownership going forward.”

The new generation massive MIMO radios from Ericsson have been developed with the goal of having energy efficient products with the small size and light weight possible.

Ericsson secures 147 live 5G networks across 63 countries across the globe. Ericsson’s 5G management has been recognised by important independent analyst reports: Gartner 5G Magic Quadrant 2023, (third year in a row) and Frost Radar Global 5G Infrastructure.

“In addition to enhanced user experience for Telkomsel customers thanks to higher speeds, low latency and large data handling capabilities Ericsson’s 5G products and solutions will also enable Telkomsel to pursue new, innovative use cases with its enterprise and industry customers,” adds Jerry.

Ericsson and Telkomsel announced their renewed partnership at the Ericsson Imagine Live event held in Jakarta. Ericsson Imagine Live represents a showcase of the company’s new technology demonstrations. The technology demos encompass key topics including network development, capturing new business opportunities with 5G, start-up improvements and digital transformation initiatives of enterprises from across the globe.

With a presence in Indonesia for 116 years, Ericsson has been playing a important role in securing virtually every facet of telecommunications in the country providing connectivity across 2G, 3G, 4G and now 5G.
