Cradlepoint, an enterprise-focused wireless WAN and private 5G networks, is part of Ericsson’s Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions (BEWS). The combined portfolio leads industry in next-generation enterprise and private network connectivity with the broadest portfolio of 5G solution choices for enterprises and public sector agencies embracing digitalisation and Industry 4.0.

With cybersecurity high of the agendas of enterprise digitalisation strategies worldwide, Cradlepoint’s acquisition of Ericom including its cloud-based enterprise security capabilities strengthens Ericsson’s appeal as the portfolio solution of choice.

Ericom’s zero trust and cloud-based security solutions will form the basis of the new Cradlepoint NetCloud Threat Defense cloud service, expanding the company’s mobile-capable and router-integrated SASE (secure access service edge) and zero trust portfolio of solutions for fixed-site, remote worker, in-vehicle and IoT use cases.

Welcoming Ericom, George Mulhern, head of Ericsson business area enterprise wireless solutions and CEO of Cradlepoint, says, “We can now deliver a SD-WAN and SASE solution for Wireless WAN and private cellular networking, leveraging 5G while addressing the wireline needs of enterprise customers.”

Will Townsend, vice president and principal analyst of networking and security at Moor Insights & Strategy, says, “Networking and security are merging within the enterprise, and the cloud is increasingly leveraged as the preferred SASE delivery mechanism. Cradlepoint’s acquisition of Ericom and its zero trust security capabilities should position the company well to capitalise, especially in organisations considering a 5G-centric deployment approach.”

David Canellos, CEO of Ericom, says, “The acquisition enhances our ability to meet the cybersecurity needs of global enterprises as they accelerate their rapid adoption of 5G technologies.”
