Event Preview: Mobile World Congress Americas opens its doors for the first time on 12 September

In only a matter of days, the tech world will gather in San Francisco, USA for the inaugural Mobile World Congress Americas event, taking place on 12-14 September 2017 at the Moscone Center. Organised in partnership by the GSMA and CTIA, Mobile World Congress Americas will convene the mobile ecosystem and leading players from adjacent industry sectors, highlighting the groundbreaking products, services and technologies that are shaping the mobile landscape and its future.

The theme for the 2017 Mobile World Congress Americas is “The Tech Element,” reflecting the Americas’ role as a leader in the development of cutting- edge technologies. From the conference to the exhibition, Mobile World Congress Americas will address topics such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, consumer Internet of Things (IoT), next-generation networks, content and media, policy and sustainable development. The three-day show is expected to draw 30,000 attendees and more than 1,000 companies who will showcase their latest in mobile tech through exhibition stands, pavilions and hospitality spaces.

“Mobile is an essential part of how we interact, communicate, work and play, and the event will highlight key areas intersecting with mobile, from media, content and entertainment to enterprises and brands,” said Michael O’Hara, the chief marketing officer at GSMA. “We are looking forward to showcasing an industry that impacts literally billions of people around the world.”

Mobile World Congress attendees will be able to build a daily program schedule by choosing from activities and powerful content ranging from keynote presentations, to inspiring summits and focused track sessions, to interactive exhibitions on the show floor, to innovative partner programs and more.

Must-see exhibitions

Making their Americas debut, NEXTech and the GSMA Innovation City will be key to the event experience on the show floor. Home to the Graphene Pavilion and Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality Zone, among many other exhibits, NEXTech is the ultimate destination for next-generation technology also including artificial intelligence, robotics and autonomous cars.

The GSMA Innovation City is where visitors will explore a city-like environment and experience immersive demonstrations of the most cutting-edge mobile-enabled products and services in the world today. As one of the most popular features at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and Mobile World Congress Shanghai, the Innovation covers a wide range of industry topics such as the IoT, 5G, security and identity. Together, these installations will offer attendees the opportunity to experience the different technology in context and see how mobile-connected products and services can improve the daily lives of citizens and businesses across industrial applications as well as home, automotive, health, agriculture and others.

The Innovation City will feature leading-edge demonstrations from companies including AT&T, Google, KT Corporation and MasterCard, as well as from GSMA programs including Future Networks, Identity, Internet of Things and the GSMA’s work supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The 4YFN (4 Years From Now) Startup Event will provide a forum to enable startups, investors, corporations and public institutions to connect and launch new ventures together. In addition, the Everything Policy Track is a two-day program of panel discussions with leading policymakers and industry experts focused on key wireless issues. Topic including spectrum auctions, wireless infrastructure, 5G, Internet of Things (IoT) innovations, public safety, unmanned aerial services and more, will be addressed in the track.
