Nokia launches Telco Cloud Index to assess operators’ transformations by technology and business operations

Nokia Networks has developed a new index to evaluate operators’ transition to the telco cloud. The index assesses the maturity of an operator’s current cloud technology deployments, and business operations and processes.

The aim of the index is to enable operators to measure progress toward their telco cloud objectives, identify the technology and process changes needed to meet those objectives, and see how their headway measures up against others in the industry. Methodology assesses technology and business maturity

The methodology and framework behind the Telco Cloud Index have been created by Nokia Networks using quantifiable measures such as technology and business progress. To assure objectivity focused on operator needs, the company has commissioned industry research firm Analysys Mason to support the study.

Glen Ragoonanan, principal analyst at Analysys Mason, says: “Telco cloud is a high priority for most operators, many of whom have similar aims but widely different approaches and varying degrees of IT and network overlap as the starting point. Nokia’s Telco Cloud Index provides much needed business and technology maturity benchmarking and lessons learned to participating operators and the wider industry as well as helps Nokia Networks provide a more relevant telco cloud portfolio for operators, worldwide.”

A number of operators took part in a pilot phase which provided insightful recommendations on how they could close the gap between their perceived and actual telco cloud transformation.

Telco Cloud Index at a glance

• The index assesses an operator’s progress in two dimensions – technology maturity and business maturity. Initial findings have shown that operators have an opportunity to balance business maturity with technological advances
• Operators can understand how they are progressing relative to others and in relation to their own expectations
• The index also plots an operator’s transformation plans for the subsequent 12 months, and regular repeat surveys can help the operator monitor progress
