SUTEL Costa Rica selects AIRCOM International to monitor network performance

Costa Rica’s telecoms regulator, SUTEL, has selected AIRCOM’s ASSET tool to analyse and benchmark the performance of the country’s mobile network infrastructure.

In order to meet its aim of deploying mobile services to 95.42% of the country within five years, SUTEL will use ASSET to monitor the network performance of Costa Rica’s operators. By using a common set of benchmarks, ASSET will help ensure a fair and equal comparison across all independent networks. The measurements will then be used to inform policy decisions and ensure operators are meeting agreed quality standards.

ASSET helps mobile operators around the world design, plan and optimise multi-technology radio networks. It will enable SUTEL to identify and evaluate areas of poor network coverage, weak signal strength and high interference. ASSET’s advanced network design capabilities can automate time-consuming tasks such as site configuration, traffic planning, network analysis, network dimensioning and parameter planning.

“Our mobile industry, while young, is growing fast,” said Glenn Fallas, services quality director at SUTEL. “This year, mobile penetration in Costa Rica reached 100 per cent, up from under 50% in 2008. AIRCOM’s ASSET tool will allow us to continually monitor the progress being made in ensuring that reliable telecoms services are available to everyone in the country.”

Alwyn Welch, CEO at AIRCOM, added: “With ASSET, SUTEL will be able to seamlessly analyse the multiple network technologies in use across the region. We’re delighted to be able to help SUTEL ensure reliable, high quality mobile communications across Costa Rica.”
