Espoo, Finland. June 1, 2010 — Nokia Siemens Networks announced today that it has appointed Hossein Moiin as its CTO (Chief Technology Officer). He will join Nokia Siemens Networks on July 1, reporting to the company’s CEO, Rajeev Suri. Moiin is currently responsible for mobile technology and architecture at BT.

“Hossein is not just a respected technologist. He brings both passion and energy to telecoms innovation,” said Suri. “His in-depth experience driving technology strategy and architecture within service providers will bring a whole new level of customer focus to our own innovation.”

The new role of CTO was created by Nokia Siemens Networks following the reorganisation it announced in November 2009 and the elimination of the role of Chief Operating Officer from January 2010. The CTO will be responsible for developing and advocating the company’s technology strategy and long-term views on network architecture. Moiin and his teams will lead the company’s research and innovation to anticipate the needs of the world’s leading communications service providers.

“The communication industry is evolving rapidly and its evolution is impacting many aspects of our daily lives,” said Moiin. “Today our industry has transformed the lives of billions of people by enabling them to communicate with the world at large for the very first time. Nokia Siemens Networks is playing a key role in this social and technical transformation and I hope to be able to guide the company in a direction that will benefit the largest number of people and organisations.”

Moiin has worked in Europe, Asia, and the United States during his career. Prior to working for BT, Moiin held positions with T-Mobile including Group Vice President for Technical Strategy and Chief Architect. Moiin was also Chief Technologist for the Network Service Provider Group at Sun Microsystems, where he spent several years in a variety of management and development roles.

As an active consultant, he is or has been a board member of technology companies, including currently Ruckus Wireless; has been an investment advisor to top venture firms; and has been a strategy advisor to a variety of technology companies in Europe, Israel, and the USA. It is expected that, subsequent to board approval, Moiin will continue in his role as a board member of Ruckus Wireless.

Moiin has a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of California and is married with two children. He holds both Iranian and Italian citizenship and is moving to Finland to be based out of the company’s headquarters in Espoo.
