EXFO improves optical transport network test capabilities on its award-winning transport line

Quebec City, Canada. 16 March, 2010 — EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) has announced the availability of a new software release that introduces new optical transport network (OTN) testing capabilities to its Transport Blazer and Power Blazer product lines.
As service providers continue to invest in next-generation networks with a focus on the transport of packet-based services, the availability of adequate test equipment is key in order to ensure the optimal performance of these networks and maximise the return on investment. EXFO’s Transport Blazer and Power Blazer product lines already offer wide-ranging OTN testing capabilities. EXFO says it will now also support the OTU1f and OTU2f test interfaces which specifically target the transport of fibre channel services over OTN.
In addition, as the performance of fibre channel is sensitive to network latency, this new software release also offers service providers the ability to measure round-trip delay on OTN circuits.
“Service providers are well on their way with the deployment of next-generation networks and are relying more and more on the efficiency and the flexibility provided by recent enhancements to OTN standards,” said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO’s Vice President of Product Management and Marketing (pictured above). “By providing more test capabilities into its OTN test suite, EXFO is showing its commitment to staying on top of the OTN technology evolution and to deliver best-in-class transport test equipment ideally suited for next-generation network deployments.”
EXFO provides next-generation test and service assurance systems for wireless and wireline network operators and equipment manufacturers in the global telecommunications industry. The Telecom Division, which accounts for more than 90% of the company’s revenues, offers core-to-edge solutions that assess the performance and reliability of converged, IP fixed and mobile networks.
Key technologies supported include 3G, 4G/LTE, IMS, Ethernet, OTN, xDSL, and various optical technologies, accounting for an estimated 33% of the portable fibre optic test market. EXFO has a staff of approximately 1,600 people in 25 countries, supporting more than 2,000 customers worldwide.
