Contract News: NEC Selected by NTT DOCOMO to Provide Operations Support Systems (OSS)

NetCracker’s First Launch in Japan
NEC Corporation (NEC), a provider of Internet, broadband network and enterprise business products, has announced its selection by NTT DOCOMO, INC. to provide Operations Support Systems (OSS) that will be deployed by one of NEC’s United States-based subsidiaries, NetCracker Technology Corp.

DOCOMO is driving the construction of IP networks in preparation for the launch of its commercial Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in 2010. The OSS will manage the Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM) network that links core networks and base stations, as well as control communications equipment, including L2 switches in LTE networks.

The system improves the quality and efficiency of network design by providing WDM network path design capabilities, even for multi-vendor networks. This enables the construction of optimized networks for LTE and reduces CAPEX. Additionally, the system reduces OPEX by unifying network operations and making common reports that were formerly different for each separated network.
