WBA report sets out how wi-fi 6/6E enables industry 4.0

London, UK, 29 June 2022 – The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) has published “Wi-Fi 6/6E for Industrial IoT: Enabling Wi-Fi Determinism in an IoT World“. This paper explores how Wi-Fi’s latest features are ideal for meeting the demanding requirements for a wide variety of existing and emerging IIoT applications. This includes manufacturing/Industry 4.0 and logistics, involving autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated ground vehicles (AGVs), predictive maintenance and augmented/virtual/mixed reality (AR/VR/MR).

WBA OpenRoaming enables Dublin’s smart city vision with secure, high-performance Wi-Fi

London, United Kingdom. 20 June 2022 – The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) and City of Dublin announced a successful proof of concept trial of OpenRoaming in Dublin, Ireland. Initially deployed at Bernardo Square, Dame Street and the City Council’s Amphitheatre, WBA OpenRoaming enables residents and visitors to log in only once and then maintain connectivity as their smartphones, tablets and other Wi-Fi devices automatically switch between different public Wi-Fi hotspots. The success of the trial will pave the way for a larger city wide deployment.

OpenRoaming surpasses 1mn global hotspots as WBA launches OpenRoaming release 3

London, UK, 25 May 2022 – The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) has announced that the number of OpenRoaming hotspots has passed 1 million worldwide. This milestone is the latest example of WBA OpenRoaming’s success in providing Wi-Fi users seamless and automatic network access, enterprise-grade security and with Wi-Fi 6 & 6E a carrier-grade Wi-Fi experience across multiple locations.

83% will have deployed Wi-Fi 6/6E by 2022

83% of service providers and equipment manufacturers and enterprises worldwide will have deployed Wi-Fi 6/6E or plan to do so before the end of 2022. That is one key finding from the latest cross-industry survey by the Wireless Broadband Alliance, the global industry body dedicated to improving Wi-Fi standards and services.

The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) reported the completion of a successful proof-of-concept trial to automatically onboard Wi-Fi client devices to a residential Wi-Fi 6 network, paving the way for the rollout of WBA OpenRoaming across in-home Wi-Fi and wide-area wireless broadband networks.
