Following the success of last year’s event, the 2nd workshop “Open Source and Standards – The Path Towards 5G and the Internet of Things”, jointly organised by NGMN and the ITU, took place on 1st November 2017 in Bellevue (Seattle), Washington, USA. “5G mobile systems will require access to new spectrum bands supporting much wider bandwidths than those available today if the full capabilities of the 5G vision are to be delivered. Therefore a decision to initiate studies and schedule an agenda item to decide on new spectrum bands above 6GHz at the next conference in 2019 is an important objective to be achieved at the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference 2015 (WRC-15) that convenes in Geneva next month,” states Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, chairman of the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance (NGMN).
