Livingbridge investor targets cloud capabilities for communications service providers 05 July, 2018

Livingbridge investor targets cloud capabilities for communications service providers

With mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in the telecoms, media and technology (TMT) market at an all-time high, according to research from Thomson Reuters, Mo Aneese, who works in the investment team at private equity firm, Livingbridge, tells George Malim that telecoms-related investments are now really about enabling cloud services.

CSPs feel management siloes can be avoided in hybrid networks, Frost / VanillaPlus survey finds: Part 1

Analysts Frost & Sullivan collaborated with VanillaPlus recently to ask our readers their thoughts on 10 key questions facing communication service providers (CSPs) involved in digital transformation of their business and operations. In a 2-part summary, Jeremy Cowan reports on the findings. (more…)

Build a reservoir of bandwidth liquidity with SD-WAN 17 October, 2017

Build a reservoir of bandwidth liquidity with SD-WAN

Communications service providers (CSPs) are now looking to help large enterprises and public-sector organisations transform the edge of their networks, which now require seamless cloud connectivity and app-performance integration, writes Atchison Frazer, the worldwide head of marketing at Talari. One area of innovation lies in the implementation of NFV strategies or network functions virtualisation (NFV). For example, if a carrier supplies a circuit to an enterprise client – such as multi protocol label switching (MPLS) – they would also like to offer the optimisation of that circuit as a subscription service.  Then, the CSP can work with best-of-breed WAN-edge network innovators to create VNFs or virtual network functions of typical edge-network services, such as software defined-wide area network (SD-WAN) or WAN-optimisation. These virtual network functions (VNFs) can be service-chained together to be exposed to end users as one unified service.

We need an effective packet core in IoT 02 October, 2017

We need an effective packet core in IoT

The Internet of Things (IoT) is being hailed as the next big thing in the tech world. The way in which we live our day-to-day lives will change forever when all of our products and devices become ‘connected’ – that’s if we’re led to believe everything we see and hear. (more…)

The guide to network, service and subscriber analytics 27 September, 2017

The guide to network, service and subscriber analytics

In the traditional telecoms environment, red lights in the network operation centre (NOC) were sufficient to warn operators of a network performance issue. However, as services have become more complex than simple network connectivity and as network architectures increasingly involve different types of network technology, a red light on a console warning of poor performance or failure of a specific network element is of little use in identifying service affecting issues or the root cause of an issue.

Prepare for the autonomous network 27 September, 2017

Prepare for the autonomous network

With the ever-increasing demand for cloud computing, mobility and video streaming, there is a growing burden being placed on our global networks, writes Loudon Blair, a senior director in the Corporate Strategy Office at Ciena. Indeed, system overload is now an imminent possibility for many organisations due to the vast amount of traffic coming – and yet to come – from Internet of Things’ (IoT) devices, 4K and 8K video streaming and virtual reality applications. This is of course in addition to the substantial amount of over-the-top (OTT) service streaming of voice and video already commonplace in daily use.

Subscribers feel service providers are using chatbots and artificial intelligence to cut jobs: Not guilty, say SPs 22 September, 2017

Subscribers feel service providers are using chatbots and artificial intelligence to cut jobs: Not guilty, say SPs

Consumers like chatbots. In fact, many prefer them to call centre agents. But there’s a public perception that service providers (SPs) are simply using the technology to cut one of their greatest costs, staff headcount – and consumers are not happy about it. (more…)

Inside the modern customer journey 20 September, 2017

Inside the modern customer journey

Demanding, informed, yet seeking constant validation, today’s customer is complex – especially when it comes to discretionary purchases, writes Craig Summers, the UK managing director at Manhattan Associates. Flitting between store and online, for these boomerang customers 60% to 70% of the decision making process will have occurred before any direct retailer interaction. And when product information, from reviews to social comments, is so incredibly accessible, few individuals these days will make any purchase without some form of community endorsement.
