A1 digital acquires Swiss cloud provider Exoscale

A1 digital international GmbH, a subsidiary of the Telekom Austria Group, has acquired a majority stake in the Swiss cloud provider Exoscale and thus also the shares held by Swisscom Ventures and the Anaroll Holding. Exoscale provides infrastructure and services for cloud applications in Europe.

Following the takeover of the Swiss company Exoscale, A1 digital will be able to offer cloud-based services over this platform in future. Renowned companies such as Swisscom, CERN and the fintech start-up Bity are already using this solution successfully.

With cloud services such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) companies can avail themselves of flexible and scalable IT infrastructure, computing power, network capacity and storage. This eliminates over provisioning and a sudden need for infrastructure can be covered easily with flexible pay-as-you-go pricing for customers.

A1 digital, which was founded in 2017, already has a presence in 7 countries and benefits from strong sales power in all regions. Elisabetta Castiglioni, CEO of A1 digital said, “For data-protection reasons, an increasing number of companies prefer domestic cloud providers.

With the takeover of Exoscale, A1 digital is strategically positioned as a strong regional player operating under EU law. We will open an Exoscale access point in Vienna this summer, a further location in Germany will follow. This marks a key step in the expansion of our portfolio.”

Exoscale co-founder and CEO Antoine Coetsier said, “We are delighted that Exoscale can now expand its current Swiss position and offer a genuine alternative to US-regulated solutions for the European market. A1 digital also shares our vision to combine purely cloud-hosting solutions with value-added services”.

Stefan Kuentz, Investment director at Swisscom Ventures, Swisscom’s venture capital arm, commented: “We have been very pleased by Exoscale’s market execution and customer growth since our investment in 2015. To support the company’s international expansion journey, we are glad to have found A1 Digital as the new majority owner and partner that has the reach to unlock multiple new markets”
