Telefónica Brazil selects Amdocs Data Hub

Telefónica has selected the Amdocs Data Hub to provide a rich open-source environment for data modernisation at its Vivo operations in Brazil. Telefónica’s selection of this Amdocs big data solution for Vivo is an expansion of its transformation project to provide a seamless, multi-channel experience for Vivo’s quad-play customers. Vivo is one of Brazil’s premier communications service providers, with more than 97 million access lines across mobile, internet and data, pay-TV and fixed telephony lines of business.

The Amdocs system extracts large volumes of data from a wide range of operational platforms and maps these data sets into a logical data model with aggregated customer insights. This environment allows Vivo to quickly generate business results with a smarter data-centric IT environment.

“Vivo is executing on Telefónica’s global strategy of transformation to provide a digital, online experience to our customers in Brazil over any channel they prefer, in line with their always-connected digital lifestyle,” said Alessandra Bomura Nogueira, Chief Information Officer of Telefónica Brazil. “This data modernisation project is an essential element of our transformation project. The business support systems we have provide key insights into our customers’ needs and journeys. By moving data from these operational systems into a modern Hadoop environment, we are able to reduce costs in our data warehouse and provide richer insights and actions for our customer engagements, helping to reinforce our leading position in the Brazilian market.”

The Amdocs Data Hub solution in Vivo is based on the telecomsspecific Amdocs Logical Data Model, which integrates service providers’ diverse BSS, operational support systems (OSS) and core network data sources into one holistic view across all lines of business, thereby enabling seamless extraction, processing and visualisation of their massive volumes of data; the solution also includes processes and tools for data validation, reconciliation and quality. The system incorporates an advanced semantic layer, giving business users the ability, in a self-service model, to access fresh data and generate actionable insights for customer intelligence, network experience and targeted marketing.

Amdocs’ Data Hub is designed for operation in a rich open-source environment. It employs Hortonwork Data Platform, a secure, enterprise-ready open-source Apache Hadoop distribution for rapid, scalable storage and processing of large data volumes on distributed, low-cost hardware. The solution integrates pre-built collectors from a wide range of data sources to automate the resource-intensive data processing, mapping and cleansing process. In addition, this open-data environment makes it easy for service providers to build a rich ecosystem of partners to drive innovation and business insights.

“Vivo’s selection of the Amdocs Data Hub is the next logical step in the quad-play transformation project announced in 2015 – and is testimony to the strength of our partnership and the results we’ve already achieved,” said Manuel Zepeda, the president for the Caribbean and Latin America region at Amdocs. “By extracting and analysing a wealth of customer data from our BSS systems and third-party systems, the Data Hub will give Telefónica Brazil the business insights needed to react quickly to changing market dynamics.”
