OneAccess Networks unveils open ready-to-go virtualisation solutions for service providers

Pravin Mirchandani, CMO, OneAccess

OneAccess Networks has unveiled carrier-grade physical and virtual network functions that enable service providers to deploy NFV today in an open and interoperable environment.

These functions are now available for fast network virtualisation in data centers, as VNFs on a new range of white box CPEs, and on the firm’s traditional multi-service access platforms.

For over a decade, OneAccess has been squeezing maximum performance out of compact, multi-functional network access solutions, designed specifically for service providers. Building on this heritage, the firm has developed what US and European operators are calling ‘one of the most technically advanced virtualisation solutions for enterprise services globally’. Today’s launch includes:

Open virtualisation platform (OVP)

A one-box virtualisation solution for fast NFV deployment at the network edge. Based on standard protocols and open data models, the programmable OVP framework lays the foundation for hosting, chaining and managing OneAccess and other VNFs. By combining white-box hardware with the management and programmability afforded by NETCONF, OVP enables service providers to create and deploy new and customised virtualised services on demand.

Flexible carrier-grade VNF catalog

An extensive range of highly scalable and carrier-grade virtualised network functions using industry-standard APIs. These include a fully-featured vRouter and VNFs for a Session Border Controller, WAN Optimisation Controller and VPN services. All OneAccess’ VNFs can be run in a virtualised data center, can be composed into specific service bundles, and can be run on its own or other white-boxes, as well as in combination with other vendors’ VNFs.

Range of white-box CPEs

OneAccess has developed a range of white-box CPEs that run its and other vendor VNFs, where both the platform and the VNFs can be directly integrated into service providers’ next-generation management systems using NETCONF and YANG.

As well as delivering CAPEX savings via appliance consolidation, OneAccess white-box CPEs also provide operators with the freedom to partner with multiple VNF vendors, together with the flexibility to adjust their market offer in the future.

“We have a long history of responding to the needs of large communications and other network providers and that’s precisely what we have done with our virtualisation solutions,” commented Pravin Mirchandani, CMO, OneAccess.

“Network operators and CSPs have told us they want a catalog of compact, efficient, carrier-grade VNFs delivered on an open, standards-based platform that allows them to stay in control.

They want the ability to integrate third party network functions as they see fit. Plus they need a phased approach to NFV migration, at a pace which they define. This is what we’re delivering today: fast network virtualisation.”

Through POCs and trials, major operators have confirmed that OneAccess has one of the most technically advanced NFV offerings available today.

“We have reached the final stages of POC trials and been shortlisted with major operators in North America and Europe and are at intermediate stages with several other CSPs and partners, adds Mirchandani. “During these tests we have demonstrated interoperability with a leading NFV orchestrator and service chaining with third-party VNFs on our own Open Virtualisation Platform white-box CPE as well as other NFVI environments. We’re told we are well ahead of the game.”

A genuine open systems approach

OneAccess’ approach to virtualisation is fully open and ensures other network functions can be integrated or chained with its own VNFs. This pioneering open systems approach, based on industry standard APIs, enables freedom of choice for service providers and other network operators giving them full control over their path to virtualisation. With a highly flexible licensing model, OneAccess also enables service providers to easily assemble and market new innovative service offers.

Live demonstration at NFV World Congress

At 17:50, Thursday 21st April, on Stand 10 at the NFV World Congress show, OneAccess will demonstrate how new services can be set up using simple drag and drop techniques on its Open Virtualisation Platform white-box CPE. Visitors can learn how to provision a UTM security service as well core CPE routing functionalities at a remote site.
