Telenor Global Services selects Oracle’s Tekelec Diameter

Telenor Global Services is to make its LTE roaming services available around the world using Oracle’s Tekelec Diameter Signaling Router. The system will enable national and international roaming and over-the-top (OTT) services, such as voice over internet protocol (VoIP) for partner service providers, helping to increase revenues and provide subscribers with greater LTE network access.

Diameter signaling messages transmit essential subscriber mobile data activities, including authorization, authentication, billing, charging and network policy information. As smartphone and tablet proliferation and consumer data demands increase, the number of Diameter signaling messages in CSP networks will also grow exponentially, requiring advanced signaling technology to properly manage network traffic.

“LTE offers service providers new ways to improve the subscriber experience. Interconnection is vital to rapidly expand innovative services such as global video and VoIP,” said Bjørn Iversen, chief executive officer, Telenor Global Services. “By establishing LTE roaming, we enable subscribers to enjoy and better afford mobile data services when traveling.  Oracle Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router gives us an unmatched ability to support our customers’ new services.”

Doug Suriano, chief technology officer at Tekelec, added: “LTE roaming, new devices and over-the-top applications will help catapult the next generation of LTE services provided by IP exchange providers.  Telenor Global Services is advancing a new LTE Diameter network vision and giving service providers new abilities to extend their mobile data offerings and improve subscribers’ experiences.  We are pleased to help support this initiative with Oracle’s Tekelec Diameter Signaling Router, which has the scalability and reliability to grow with the company.”
