Vasona Networks expands Telefónica UK roll-out

Vasona Networks, a provider of platforms for mobile network capacity, resource management and edge intelligence, has extended its pilot deployment at Telefónica UK into a full commercial deployment with the CSP, which trades under the O2 brand.

The deal covers roll-out of the Vasona SmartAIR 1000 edge application controller and SmartVISION analysis suite, to cover O2 customers on the company’s 3G and 4G networks in Greater London.

“At every stage of our work with Vasona Networks, the company demonstrates the ability to drive network performance improvements during peak times of the day so that our customers get a consistent experience when using their mobile device,” said Brendan O’Reilly, the CTO of Telefónica O2.

The SmartAIR system uses dynamic rate control with feedback (DRCF) traffic management technology, detecting congestion at the cell level and taking immediate action to minimise latency and avoid radio access network (RAN) packet loss. This improves the quality of user experiences on the existing network and also improves performance of new RAN investments. The SmartVISION software suite provides a dashboard, metadata, and regular reports that show real-time and historical QoE performance across individual cells.

“Around the world, Vasona is helping mobile operators extract maximum performance out of networks that are being pushed to the brink by heavy consumer data demands,” says Biren Sood, the chief executive of Vasona Networks.. “Our growing collaboration with Telefónica UK demonstrates the flexible capabilities of Vasona edge platforms to scale in response to evolving operator needs.”
